Indiana prosecutor seeks death penalty
Hendricks County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Dalonny Rodgers, 30, accused of a quadruple shooting outside White House Suites in Plainfield, Indiana, on September 10, 2022, which resulted in the deaths of two Hispanic men, Alfredo Garcia, 52, and Jose Rolando Castaneda Varela, 34. This is the first time the prosecutor's office has pursued a death sentence, with Prosecutor Loren Delp emphasizing the gravity of the decision based on multiple victims and aggravating circumstances, including racial slurs made by Rodgers before the shooting. Witnesses reported that Rodgers approached the victims while making derogatory remarks before returning with a firearm and firing approximately 11 shots. He fled the scene in one of the victim's vehicles and was arrested more than a year later in Massachusetts. Rodgers is charged with two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder, with a jury trial scheduled for December 3, 2024. If convicted and sentenced to death, he would mark the first execution in Indiana since 2009.
