Jerar Encarnacion to Giants
The San Francisco Giants made significant roster changes ahead of their series against the Cincinnati Reds, highlighted by the acquisition of Mark Canha from the Detroit Tigers and the promotion of Jerar Encarnacion from Triple-A Sacramento. Canha, who has local ties and a strong relationship with the team, is expected to bolster the lineup as a platoon partner and late-inning substitute. Meanwhile, Encarnacion, who impressed in the Pacific Coast League with a .352 batting average and 10 home runs, will provide additional power, particularly against left-handed pitchers. The Giants also reinstated Sean Hjelle from the bereavement list while optioning Blake Sabol and David Villar to Triple-A and designating Derek Hill for assignment. These moves come as the Giants aim to enhance their offense, which has struggled recently. Encarnacion's journey to the majors is notable, having previously played in the Mexican League before signing with the Giants and showcasing his ability to hit for power.
