Roberto De Zerbi has reached an agreement in principle to become the new head coach of Marseille, succeeding Jean-Louis Gasset who retired after a short caretaker spell. De Zerbi left Brighton at the end of last season following a successful two-year tenure, during which he led the club to their highest Premier League finish of sixth and qualified them for European competition. The 45-year-old Italian had previously been linked with managerial positions at Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea. Marseille, who finished a disappointing eighth in Ligue 1 last season, are working to finalize the deal and prepare for De Zerbi's arrival in the coming days. The club hopes that De Zerbi will help the team regain its form and challenge for higher league positions in the forthcoming season.
