The Biden administration has announced over $2 billion in direct payments to Black and minority farmers who faced discrimination from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), with more than 23,000 farmers receiving amounts between $10,000 and $500,000. This initiative is part of a broader effort to rectify decades of discriminatory practices, and the funds were allocated through the Inflation Reduction Act. Additionally, about $77.3 million will go to Louisiana farmers who filed discrimination claims, marking a significant step towards equity in agriculture. Boyd continues to advocate for more substantial reforms, including a federal lawsuit for 120% debt relief for Black farmers.
