GARM Shuts Down Amid X's Antitrust Lawsuit

The Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), a nonprofit coalition of advertisers, has shut down following an antitrust lawsuit filed by Elon Musk's social media company, X (formerly Twitter). The lawsuit alleges that GARM, along with major advertisers like Unilever and CVS Health, orchestrated an illegal boycott resulting in billions of dollars in lost ad revenue for X. The World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), which oversees GARM, stated they lack the financial resources to fight the lawsuit but plan to challenge the allegations in court. X CEO Linda Yaccarino celebrated GARM's dissolution, viewing it as a move towards ecosystem reform. The lawsuit is part of broader efforts by X to combat initiatives aimed at curtailing toxic online discourse, with other social media companies like Rumble joining similar legal actions.
