The Los Angeles Kings have relieved Todd McLellan of his duties as head coach, with Jim Hiller taking over on an interim basis. McLellan, who was in the final season of a five-year contract earning him roughly $5M per season, had signed a one-year extension prior to this season, which the Kings will still owe him. The Kings had a 20-7-4 start to the season, but since Dec. 28, they have gone 3-8-6, and are only four points ahead from falling out of a playoff spot. The team's biggest offseason swing, a trade and subsequent eight-year, $68M extension for Pierre-Luc Dubois, has crashed and burned, and the LA Kings have fired their head coach, Todd McLellan, who is the 6th NHL coach let go this season.
