Two Women Killed in Connecticut Flooding
Severe flooding in Connecticut has resulted in the deaths of two women, Ethelyn Joiner, 65, and Audrey Rostkowski, 71, after they were swept away by raging waters in separate incidents in Oxford. The state experienced nearly a foot of rain over the weekend, leading to significant damage, including washed-out roads and trapped individuals in vehicles and businesses. Governor Ned Lamont declared a state of emergency to facilitate recovery efforts, as search and rescue teams evacuated over 100 people in response to the flooding. Dramatic rescues were conducted by local fire departments, with some individuals saved from the Brookside Inn and other affected areas. As recovery efforts continue, authorities are using drones and search dogs to locate any remaining stranded individuals. The National Weather Service has warned of potential further weather disturbances that could exacerbate flooding in the region.
