Shoplifting Suspect Hides in Tesla Trunk

Emely Yanagida, 35, was arrested in Irvine after allegedly shoplifting $600 worth of Sephora products and $250 worth of Lululemon merchandise. After being spotted by a citizen entering a white Tesla, she hid in the trunk under a green tarp. Police discovered her hiding after knocking on the trunk and issuing several warnings. Yanagida claimed she was scared and denied the theft, asserting she came with the items. She was charged with shoplifting, possessing burglary tools, and resisting arrest. The incident and her arrest were captured on bodycam footage and shared by the Irvine Police Department.
