Three men, Shaan Karim (38), Thierry Robinson (21), and Ashirie Smith (18), have been charged with the murder of a 31-year-old inmate at HMP Fosse Way, Leicestershire's newest prison, following the inmate's death on August 20. The victim was found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services arrived. Alongside the three charged, two additional men aged 27 and 28 were arrested but have since been released under investigation. A sixth man, aged 35, was also previously released under investigation. All three accused have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court. HMP Fosse Way, which opened in June 2023, is designed to house low-level offenders and aims to rehabilitate inmates while contending with ongoing overcrowding issues.
