Engineer Rashid Files Bail Application in Delhi

Engineer Rashid, a Member of Parliament and leader of the Awami Ittehad Party, has submitted a bail application to the Delhi High Court in connection with a 2017 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case. The court has issued a notice to the National Investigation Agency and scheduled a hearing for August 28. Despite being imprisoned in Tihar Jail since 2019, Rashid recently won the Baramulla seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections while still incarcerated, defeating former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. His party is optimistic about the bail, citing his electoral mandate and the significance of his role in upcoming Assembly elections. AIP spokespersons have clarified that rumors of his release are unfounded and that they expect a decision on his bail soon.
