Philip Morris Expands ZYN Production in Kentucky
Philip Morris International (PMI) is investing $232 million to expand its Owensboro, Kentucky facility, aiming to increase production of ZYN nicotine pouches to meet rising demand. This expansion is expected to create 450 direct jobs, boosting the workforce by about 40%, while the construction phase will generate nearly 2,800 jobs. ZYN, which contains nicotine powder and is marketed as a tobacco-free alternative, has seen significant growth, but PMI has faced supply chain constraints. The facility will transition to a 24/7 operational schedule, with completion of the expansion projected for the second quarter of 2025. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear praised the investment as a vital contribution to local job creation and the economy. PMI's efforts reflect a broader industry shift towards smoke-free products amid increasing health awareness and regulatory pressures.
