Traffickers are deceiving couriers into believing they face minimal penalties, yet the maximum sentence for cannabis importation is 14 years. This increase is attributed to the overproduction of cannabis in countries where it is legal, with mules reportedly earning up to £10,000 per trip. Recent high-profile cases include a Spanish national caught with 158 kilos at Manchester Airport and a seizure of 510kg at Birmingham Airport.
