An 11-year-old Australian girl was stabbed eight times in a random attack at Leicester Square, London. Ioan Pintaru, a 32-year-old Romanian national with no fixed address, allegedly put the girl in a headlock and attacked her with a steak knife. The girl sustained serious injuries to her face, neck, wrist, and shoulder, requiring plastic surgery, but has since been discharged from the hospital. Members of the public intervened and restrained Pintaru until police arrived. Pintaru has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a blade, and he will remain in custody until his next court appearance on September 10. Authorities have stated that the attack was not terror-related and that Pintaru did not know the victim or her mother.
