Rakesh Kumar Advances at Paris Paralympics
At the Paralympic Games in Paris, Indian archers Sarita Devi and Rakesh Kumar advanced to the second round of their respective categories with impressive victories, while Shyam Sundar Swami faced a narrow defeat. Sarita secured her place by defeating Malaysia's Nur Jannaton Abdul Jalil 138-124 and will compete against Paralympic record holder Eleonora Sarti of Italy next. Rakesh Kumar triumphed over Senegal's Aliou Drame with a score of 136-131 and will face Indonesia's Ken Swagumilang in the pre-quarterfinals. Swami, who tied with Thailand's Comsan Singpirom at 138-138, lost in a shoot-off after both archers shot 10s, with Singpirom's arrow landing closer to the center. Both Rakesh and Sarita are building on their past successes, having medaled at previous events.
