Pune Police Arrest Suspects in Corporator Murder

Vanraj Andekar, a former corporator of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot dead near Doke Talim in Pune's Nana Peth area on Sunday night. The attackers, reportedly around eight to ten in number including two of Andekar's brothers-in-law, fired five bullets and assaulted him with sharp weapons following a family dispute linked to a recent anti-encroachment action by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Andekar was rushed to KEM Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police have arrested two suspects and are investigating the incident, which has sparked fear in the community. Authorities recovered CCTV footage of the assailants arriving on motorbikes, and the motive appears to stem from long-standing grievances within the family. Andekar was previously elected in 2017 and came from a politically connected family with a history of criminal association.
