Oilers Decline Offer Sheets for Broberg and Holloway
The Edmonton Oilers have declined to match the St. Louis Blues' offer sheets for defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway, resulting in both players signing two-year contracts with the Blues. Broberg's contract is valued at $4.58 million annually, while Holloway's is worth $2.29 million annually. As compensation, the Oilers will receive a second-round pick for Broberg and a third-round pick for Holloway in the 2025 NHL Draft. Oilers GM Stan Bowman explained that the decision was driven by salary cap considerations and the team's need to balance short-term and long-term goals. The Oilers also made moves to maintain roster flexibility, including trading for Ty Emberson and Vasily Podkolzin. The Blues hope these acquisitions will help them improve after missing the playoffs in the last two seasons.
