Federal Funds Awarded to Support Migrants in California

Los Angeles has received $21.8 million in federal funds from the Department of Homeland Security to assist newly arrived migrants, addressing a critical need amidst the city's ongoing housing crisis. In San Diego, Rep. Juan Vargas announced an additional $43.7 million in funding for non-governmental organizations, including Catholic Charities and Jewish Family Service, aimed at aiding migrants awaiting their immigration proceedings. This funding comes after previous allocations totaling over $39 million earlier in the year. Despite concerns raised by lawmakers about the use of funds for travel expenses, the primary purpose remains to support food, shelter, and medical care for migrants.
