China Condemns Assassination of Hamas Leader

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China's support for Iran in defending its sovereignty, security, and national dignity following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, which Beijing condemned as a violation of Iran's sovereignty and a threat to regional stability. While Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of the assassination, Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement. The incident has escalated tensions, with Iran vowing to retaliate and concerns growing about a broader Middle East conflict. During a phone call with Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, Wang emphasized China's commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability and called for joint efforts to de-escalate tensions. China has also issued security alerts through its embassies in Lebanon and Iran, highlighting the heightened risk of conflict.
