Punkie Johnson has announced her departure from Saturday Night Live (SNL) after four seasons, citing a lack of fit within the show's environment. Speaking on the 'Fly on the Wall' podcast, she expressed doubts about her role, stating she felt out of place and that SNL was suited for a different type of performer. Despite a strong start in Season 49, where she secured several sketches, her experience changed after the departure of her writer Ben Silva, who helped translate her ideas into the show's format. Johnson emphasized her background in stand-up comedy and her surprise that other cast members had formal training for sketch comedy. She confirmed her exit was a mutual decision and expressed gratitude for her time on the show, while looking forward to new opportunities. Following her announcement, fellow cast member Molly Kearney also revealed they would not return for the 50th season.
