Fatal Stabbing in Nebraska Leads to Multiple Felony Charges; Separate Incident in Kansas
James Thompson Jr., a 22-year-old from Elyria, Ohio, faces multiple felony charges, including murder and attempted murder, following a deadly stabbing at a rest stop near Grand Island, Nebraska. The attack left 72-year-old Gary Weaver dead and his 71-year-old wife, Mary Weaver, critically injured. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, with Thompson allegedly attempting to rob the couple before fleeing the scene. He was apprehended by Nebraska State Troopers after a high-speed chase that ended when his vehicle drove into the Platte River. Thompson is now in Hall County Jail awaiting his court appearance. In Shawnee, Kansas, a separate stabbing incident occurred where a 17-year-old male and an adult female sustained injuries. The teen's injuries were non-life-threatening, while the woman had minor injuries. Police are actively searching for an 18-year-old male suspect in the Shawnee case.
