Dodowa Forest demolition
Local authorities have taken significant steps to combat illegal constructions affecting environmental regions in both India and Ghana. In India, a church illegally built on forest land in Varanasi was demolished following complaints regarding encroachment and forced conversions, while a structure in Calangute, Goa, was also removed for lacking necessary permissions. In Ghana, the Greater Accra Regional Security Council has begun demolishing unauthorized buildings in the Dodowa forest and the Sakumo Ramsar site, both of which have faced severe encroachment issues. Regional Minister Titus Glover emphasized the urgency of halting further developments and restoring these critical natural habitats. Additionally, tree-planting initiatives have been launched to rehabilitate the affected forest areas. These actions reflect a growing commitment to environmental conservation amidst ongoing challenges with illegal development.
