Winfred Yavi Nears World Record in Rome
At the Rome Diamond League, Olympic champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain excelled in the women's 3,000 metres steeplechase, finishing with a time of 8:44.39, just seven hundredths of a second off the world record. Yavi's performance, which mirrored the Olympic final, saw her edge out Uganda's Peruth Chemutai for the gold, while Kenya's Faith Cherotich took bronze. Yavi expressed disappointment at missing the record but remains determined to achieve it before the season ends. In other events, Jamaica's Ackera Nugent won the women's 100 metres hurdles with a personal best of 12.24 seconds, and Botswana's Letsile Tebogo claimed victory in the men's 100 metres with a time of 9.87 seconds. The competition showcased multiple impressive performances, including a meet record throw from Ryan Crouser in the shot put and Faith Kipyegon's dominant win in the 1500 metres.
