PTI arrested in Pak
In Pakistan, over 150 members from the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been arrested during a crackdown by law enforcement in response to planned protests against rising electricity bills and the incarceration of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The arrests occurred in multiple cities, with significant actions reported in Lahore, where police detained individuals attempting to reach Islamabad for a sit-in at D-Chowk. Authorities imposed Section 144, prohibiting gatherings, and set up blockades around the capital to prevent protests. JI leaders condemned the arrests as 'fascist tactics' and announced plans to continue protests despite police resistance. The situation has escalated tensions between the government and opposition parties, with calls for nationwide demonstrations if protests are obstructed. As protests unfold, strict security measures remain in place across Punjab and Islamabad, further isolating the capital from surrounding areas.
