Epic Games Relaunches Fortnite on Mobile in Europe

Fortnite has officially returned to iPhones in Europe and is now available globally on Android devices, marking a significant achievement for Epic Games after a four-year absence due to legal disputes with Apple and Google. The relaunch follows the implementation of the EU's Digital Markets Act, which allows Epic to operate its own game store on iOS, bypassing the traditional app store restrictions that previously hindered its access. Players can now download Fortnite and other Epic titles like Rocket League Sideswipe and Fall Guys directly from the Epic Games Store or via third-party app stores such as AltStore. Despite this progress, access outside the EU remains blocked by Apple, and the installation process is described as cumbersome due to intentional barriers set by Apple and Google. Epic aims to leverage this opportunity to grow its user base significantly, projecting an addition of 100 million mobile users by year-end. CEO Tim Sweeney expressed gratitude towards the EU for facilitating this competitive environment, emphasizing ongoing efforts to combat restrictive practices in the mobile app ecosystem.
