Investigation Expands in Deadly Superyacht Sinking

Italian prosecutors have expanded their investigation into the sinking of the Bayesian superyacht off Sicily, which resulted in the deaths of seven people, including British tech mogul Mike Lynch and his daughter. Two crew members, engineer Tim Parker Eaton and sailor Matthew Griffith, are now under investigation alongside the captain, James Cutfield, who faces possible manslaughter charges. Their lawyer stated that the scope of their potential responsibilities is still being determined. Investigators are examining how the yacht, described as 'unsinkable' by its manufacturer, Perini Navi, sank while a nearby vessel remained unaffected, with initial theories suggesting a sudden 'downburst' wind event. All crew members survived except for the chef, while six passengers were trapped and perished inside the yacht. The investigation will assess accountability among the captain, crew, supervisory personnel, and the yacht's manufacturer.
