Hong Kong Airlines to Gold Coast
Hong Kong Airlines is set to launch a seasonal non-stop service between Hong Kong and Gold Coast from January 17 to February 15, 2025, marking its first Australian connection since COVID-19. Operating four times a week, the service will provide approximately 6,000 seats during the Chinese Lunar New Year period, aiming to enhance tourism and international connectivity for the Gold Coast. Hong Kong Airlines Chairman Jeff Sun emphasized the importance of this route as a step back into the long-haul market and a way to explore additional international routes. Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans expressed optimism that the service would attract travelers from Hong Kong and mainland China, potentially leading to longer-term routes. The initiative is supported by the Queensland Government's Attracting Aviation Investment Fund and aims to rejuvenate the critical Chinese visitor market, which has been vital for the Gold Coast economy. Local tourism officials are hopeful that this new connection will bolster the region's recovery and appeal as a travel destination.
