Antioch School Board Terminates Superintendent Anello

The Antioch Unified School District Board has unanimously terminated Superintendent Stephanie Anello's employment following allegations of her ignoring bullying complaints against a district director. Anello has been on administrative leave since May due to accusations of protecting Kenneth Turnage II, the maintenance director, who was alleged to have bullied subordinates, including a notable incident where a coworker's desk was placed on a roof. The board's decision, announced by President Antonio Hernandez, came after a year of controversy and was met with applause from attendees at the meeting. Anello, who has served the district for over 25 years, expressed gratitude for her time in the role, highlighting her achievements such as improving bilingual support and expanding mental health resources. Despite the termination 'without cause', the board recognized her contributions while acknowledging the need for a new direction moving forward. Anello will receive compensation for up to nine months of her $353,000 annual salary as per her contract.
