The Hopewell community is mourning the loss of Jayvion Taylor, a 15-year-old sophomore who collapsed and died during junior varsity football practice on Monday. Jayvion collapsed about 40 minutes into practice during light drills, and coaches immediately performed CPR and called 911, but he passed away at the hospital. The school confirmed that an athletic trainer was not present, as the new trainer's contract starts on August 12. In response to his death, the school canceled classes the next day and provided grief counseling for students and staff. Jayvion was remembered as a positive and remarkable young man who left a lasting impact on his peers and community. The incident has raised concerns about the availability of medical staff during high school sports practices.
