Federal Judges Block Biden's Title IX Overhaul

In a recent ruling, U.S. District Judge Annemarie Carney Axon denied a request from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina to block the Biden administration's Title IX rule that prohibits discrimination based on gender identity in federally funded schools. Conversely, another federal judge, Rodney Sippel, issued an injunction against the enforcement of the same rule in six states, bringing the total number of states where the rule is blocked to 21. The Biden administration's Title IX overhaul has faced criticism from various state officials, including Illinois Rep. Mary Miller, who introduced the 'Defining Male and Female Act' to clarify legal definitions of 'sex', 'male', and 'female' as part of ongoing legislative pushback. Critics argue that the expanded definitions pose risks to women's sports and facilities. States involved in lawsuits against the administration contend that the new rules represent federal overreach. Meanwhile, Minnesota will implement the Title IX changes since it did not join the lawsuit against the administration.
