Two Journalists Killed in Myanmar Military Raid

Two freelance journalists, Win Htut Oo and Htet Myat Thu, were killed by Myanmar's security forces during a raid on Thu's home in Mon State. The raid, involving around 30 soldiers, targeted the house due to suspected pro-democracy insurgent activity. DVB, the news agency both journalists worked for, and Reporters Without Borders have condemned the killings, highlighting Myanmar's severe press freedom violations. At least five other journalists have been killed and many tortured since the military coup in February 2021. The international community, including the Committee to Protect Journalists, has called for swift justice for the murdered journalists. Myanmar ranks near the bottom of the World Press Freedom Index, reflecting its dangerous environment for reporters.
