Ohio Adds Driver's License to Apple Wallet

News summary

Ohio has become the fifth state to allow residents to add their driver's licenses and state IDs to Apple Wallet, joining Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, and Georgia. This initiative, announced by Governor Mike DeWine, was developed through a collaboration between InnovateOhio, the Ohio BMV, and Apple. The digital ID can be used in select businesses, apps, and at TSA checkpoints, including John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. While this feature provides a convenient alternative to physical IDs, they are still required for driving and law enforcement interactions. To use this feature, residents need an iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16.5 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 4 or later with watchOS 9.5 or later. A free age verification app is also available for businesses to authenticate these digital IDs.
