A double-decker express train traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai split into two pieces near Surat on Thursday morning due to a broken coupler, leaving thousands of passengers stranded for over two hours. The incident occurred near Gothan railway station at 8:50 a.m., with the affected 8th and 9th coaches detaching from train number 12932. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though passengers experienced panic and exited the train. Western Railway swiftly responded, bringing restoration teams to the scene and rerouting train traffic. By 11:37 a.m., restoration work was completed and normal operations resumed. The railway has stated that while the situation was serious, they worked diligently to minimize disruptions for the affected travellers.
