Michaela Coel Announces New HBO Drama Series

Michaela Coel is set to star in, write, and executive produce a new drama series titled 'First Day on Earth', co-produced by HBO and the BBC. The ten-episode series follows British novelist Henri, portrayed by Coel, who travels to Ghana to reconnect with her estranged father and her cultural roots, only to find that neither her job nor her father are what she expected. Coel's collaboration includes notable figures such as Jesse Armstrong, who created 'Succession', and production will begin next year. Coel describes the show as a personal project that reflects on identity and the complexities of home. Following her success with 'I May Destroy You', Coel aims to engage a global audience with this new narrative. This marks her first television project in four years, continuing her exploration of deeply personal stories.
