Sophie Devine to Step Down as T20 Captain
Sophie Devine has announced she will step down as New Zealand's T20I captain after the Women's T20 World Cup in October, while continuing as the ODI captain. Devine, who has led the team in 56 T20 matches since 2014, cited a desire to manage her workload and focus on nurturing future leaders as reasons for her decision. She emphasized the challenges of captaincy but expressed pride in her leadership role, stating, "With captaincy comes an additional workload that, while I've enjoyed taking on, can also be challenging at times." Devine is currently recovering from a foot injury and is set to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup, with New Zealand's squad to be named on September 10. Coach Ben Sawyer praised her contributions and leadership, noting her experience as invaluable to integrating younger players into the team. A successor for the T20 captaincy will be determined after the World Cup.
