Bangladesh Reaffirms Ties with India Amid Hasina's Stay

Bangladesh's interim government has expressed a commitment to maintaining strong bilateral relations with India despite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's stay in the country following her resignation amid widespread protests. Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain emphasized that Hasina's presence in India should not affect the bilateral ties, considering them hypothetical concerns, and asserted that relations are based on mutual interests and friendship. During a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma, Hossain criticized Hasina's statements from India as unhelpful for fostering better relations but reiterated Bangladesh's dedication to ensuring the safety of all religious and ethnic communities. The interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, aims to restore normalcy and prepare for free and fair elections. India, represented by Verma, has shown a keen interest in advancing ties with Bangladesh under the new government.
