Almirola was replaced by Ty Gibbs for that race, raising questions as JGR did not initially provide a reason for the driver change. The altercation marks the second known conflict between Almirola and Wallace, with a previous incident occurring during the 2023 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. Both Joe Gibbs Racing and Wallace have declined to comment on the specifics of the altercation. Almirola, who retired from full-time Cup competition after the 2023 season, returned to JGR in a part-time capacity for the Xfinity Series.
