A coalition of 60 media and rights organizations, led by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), has urged the European Union to suspend its Association Agreement with Israel and impose sanctions due to the unprecedented killings of journalists in Gaza since October 7, 2023. More than 130 journalists, including 30 killed while working, have died as a result of Israeli military actions, with accusations that these deaths constitute war crimes. The organizations highlighted severe restrictions on media access to Gaza, arbitrary detentions, and censorship, alleging that such actions create an information void. The call for action coincides with an upcoming meeting of EU foreign ministers, emphasizing the need for accountability and respect for press freedom. RSF's Brussels head condemned Israel's disregard for human rights as outlined in the EU agreements, insisting that the bloc must act decisively to protect journalists. The situation has been described as the deadliest for journalists in decades amidst ongoing conflicts between Hamas and Israel.
