Sweden's public health agency has confirmed the first case of the more dangerous mpox variant, Clade 1, outside Africa, in a person who had traveled to an outbreak area. This announcement follows the WHO's declaration of a public health emergency for mpox in Africa, where over 450 deaths have been reported amid rising infections. Clade 1 is deemed more contagious and deadly than the previously circulating Clade 2, which caused a milder outbreak last year. While the Swedish authorities assert that the individual poses no risk to the general population, they are monitoring the situation closely. Meanwhile, Singapore's Health Ministry has also stated that the immediate risk to its population remains low, emphasizing ongoing vigilance and precautionary measures. In Thailand, health officials continue to monitor Clade 2 cases, which are less severe, while maintaining that travel restrictions are not currently necessary.
