Sydney Metro Line Transforms City Transport
Sydney's $21.6 billion metro rail line has transformed the city's transportation network, significantly easing congestion at major stations such as Town Hall and North Sydney. The new line, which includes six new underground stations, has drawn tens of thousands of commuters, with North Sydney station seeing a 37% drop in foot traffic and Town Hall a 12% decrease. The metro operates driverless trains at speeds up to 100 km/h and provides a frequent service with trains every four minutes during peak times. The extension is part of the M1 line, which now spans 66 kilometers from Rouse Hill to Sydenham and will eventually connect to Bankstown. This infrastructure project, involving 50,000 workers, is expected to handle up to 200,000 passengers daily and has been hailed as a major milestone for Sydney. The opening of the metro line under the harbour marks a historic moment, reminiscent of the impact of the Harbour Bridge's inauguration in 1932.
