US figure skaters gold medal
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed the U.S. figure skating team as the gold medalists of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, following the disqualification of Russian skater Kamila Valieva for doping. The U.S. team, which includes notable athletes like Nathan Chen and Alexa Knierim, will receive their medals at a special ceremony during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, tentatively scheduled for August 7. This marks a historic moment, as it is believed to be the first time Winter Olympics medals will be awarded during a Summer Olympics. The ruling also affects the standings of Japan and Canada, with Japan moving to silver and a still-pending decision on whether Canada will receive bronze. The medal ceremony is seen as a long-awaited acknowledgment of the achievements of the U.S. team, who had to wait over 900 days for their recognition. The ongoing legal disputes surrounding the Russian team continue, particularly concerning the claims of the Canadian team for the bronze medal.
