DOJ Clears Alaska-Hawaiian Airlines Merger
The proposed $1.9 billion merger between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines has cleared a major regulatory hurdle as the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) concluded its antitrust review without blocking the deal. This milestone allows the merger to move forward, pending approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The merger aims to enhance travel options for Hawaiian residents, maintain the Hawaiian Airlines brand, and expand Alaska Airlines' reach. Despite financial challenges and competition, the merger is expected to create a stronger entity with a fleet of 365 airplanes covering over 130 destinations. The deal's completion will be a significant step following the DOJ's recent decisions blocking other airline mergers.
