Sabres Draft Konsta Helenius 14th Overall in NHL
The Buffalo Sabres selected Finnish center Konsta Helenius with the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, held in Las Vegas. General Manager Kevyn Adams had attempted to trade the pick for an experienced player to boost the current roster but was unable to finalize any deals. Helenius, who is 5-foot-11 and 189 pounds, has an impressive record, having played 51 games in Finland's top professional league, where he scored 14 goals and added 22 assists. He also represented Finland at various international tournaments, including the IIHF World Championship. Despite the anticipation of a trade, Adams and the Sabres' brass expressed excitement about Helenius' potential and future contributions to the team. The Sabres had previously traded down from the 11th to the 14th pick, acquiring an additional second-round selection in the process.
