UK Plans Double Water Compensation Payments

The UK government has announced plans to double compensation for households and businesses affected by poor service from water companies. Under the new rules, compensation for issues such as supply interruptions, missed appointments, and 'boil notices' will increase significantly, with payments for severe flooding rising to as much as £2,000. These changes aim to address long-standing failures in the water industry and ensure better protection for consumers and the environment. Environment Secretary Steve Reed emphasized the need to 'clean up' the industry and restore trust. The proposals, which are subject to an eight-week consultation, follow numerous high-profile water service disruptions, including incidents in Devon and Surrey earlier this year.
