India Develops Two Indigenous Monkeypox RT-PCR Kits
India has made significant strides in combating Monkeypox with the development of two indigenous RT-PCR testing kits. Siemens Healthineers' IMDX Monkeypox Detection RT-PCR Assay, approved by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), boasts a rapid 40-minute turnaround and 100% sensitivity and specificity, leveraging existing COVID infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in collaboration with Transasia Diagnostics launched the ErbaMDx MonkeyPox RT-PCR Kit, which features lyophilized components for ambient temperature storage and a 12-month shelf life, validated by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR). Both advancements underscore India's growing capabilities in healthcare diagnostics and its proactive stance in epidemic preparedness.
