Severe Weather Disrupts Kerala Infrastructure

Severe weather conditions in Kerala, characterized by heavy winds and thunderstorms, have caused significant damage across multiple districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep contributed to gusty winds, uprooting trees and disrupting power and transportation services. Notably, areas in Alappuzha and Kottayam faced the brunt of the storm, with numerous trees falling onto roads and railway tracks, leading to train delays, including the Paluruvi Express and Ernad Express. In Alappuzha, one individual sustained serious injuries from a fallen tree, while property damage was reported in various localities. The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Lakshadweep and warned of continued thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall in the coming days. Restoration efforts are ongoing as local authorities work to clear debris and restore power amid the aftermath of the storm.
