Orange County Sues Viet America Society Over COVID Funds

Orange County has filed a lawsuit against the Viet America Society, a Huntington Beach nonprofit, alleging the misappropriation of over $13 million in COVID-19 relief funds that were intended to provide meals for elderly and disabled residents. Among those named in the lawsuit is Rhiannon Do, daughter of Supervisor Andrew Do, who is accused of benefiting from the alleged misuse of funds to purchase properties, including a million-dollar home. The county claims the nonprofit executives engaged in widespread self-dealing and failed to account for the spending of these funds. Supervisor Katrina Foley expressed outrage over the alleged misallocation that deprived vulnerable residents of necessary support. Calls for state and federal audits are being made to investigate the financial discrepancies further. The lawsuit follows the abrupt firing of the nonprofit’s auditors, raising additional concerns about accountability and transparency.
