Polish Divers Find Shipwreck with 19th-Century Champagne
A team of Polish divers from Baltictech has discovered a 19th-century shipwreck in the Baltic Sea, approximately 20 nautical miles off the coast of Sweden. The wreck, in remarkably good condition, contained over 100 bottles of champagne, wine, mineral water, and porcelain. The mineral water, originating from the German brand Selters, was particularly valuable in its time and often reserved for royal tables. The divers dated the shipment to between 1850 and 1867 based on the stamps on the bottles. The discovery was unexpected, as the divers initially hesitated to explore the wreck. Further investigations and potential retrieval of the cargo will be subject to administrative processes and Swedish authorities' decisions.
