Heathrow Border Force Officers Plan Strike

Hundreds of Border Force staff at Heathrow Airport are set to strike from August 31 to September 3, following a dispute over new inflexible rostering imposed by management. The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union has reported that many employees have left due to these changes, particularly affecting those with caring responsibilities. Following the strike, workers will also engage in a work-to-rule and overtime ban that will last until September 22. This situation contributes to a broader context of industrial actions, including ongoing strike plans by train drivers on the East Coast main line despite recent pay raises. The PCS general secretary emphasized that the strike could be avoided if management addressed the workers' concerns. Heathrow Airport is likely to face significant disruption during the busy end-of-summer travel period due to this walkout.
