Hyundai Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged EV Sales Manipulation

Hyundai Motor America is facing a lawsuit from Napleton Aurora Imports and affiliated dealers in Illinois, accusing the automaker of inflating electric vehicle (EV) sales figures by pressuring dealers to falsely code unsold vehicles as loaners. This practice allegedly allowed Hyundai to report higher sales to the public and investors, rewarding compliant dealers with better vehicle allocations and incentives while punishing those who did not participate. The lawsuit claims that this scheme not only misled stakeholders but also harmed noncompliant dealers by reducing their inventory and revenue. Hyundai has denied condoning any falsification of sales data and has launched an internal investigation into the allegations.
