Belarus troops in Ukraine

Belarus has deployed at least a thousand troops to the Gomel region near the Ukrainian border, reportedly due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and military activities in Russia's Kursk region. Despite this troop movement, Ukraine's border guard service has stated that they see no signs of Belarusian military or equipment activity near their border, maintaining that the situation remains stable. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claimed that nearly a third of the country's armed forces have been sent to the border, while Ukrainian officials counter that Kyiv has stationed over 120,000 troops in response. Andrei Lukyanovich, a commander in Belarus' air defense, noted an increase in military presence, including aviation and missile forces, but Ukraine asserts there has been no significant change in the border dynamics. Tensions remain high as the region grapples with the implications of Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
